" Gilles made me jump up. It was one of those rare moments when I was sound asleep. He poked me with Neptune's trident, and I told him to get lost. This passage is quite like what I saw when I used to watch the Vendee Glode, or Jules Verne footage. It's just like on T.V., the weather's damp, hot, there's no wind, threatening big clouds, a few rain showers, some quite sublime contrasts. I was expecting the doldrums passage to be longer, we didn't stay there for more than 35 hours. Inside the boat is even hotter then outside. The boat is orange and black, and black makes the heat even worse, it's difficult to lay hands and feet on the deck. Yesterday I was at the helm and Bruno brought me water buckets, to put my feet in and get cooler. Last night there was a little breeze, that's why I could sleep so well and why Giles wake up ceremony is so hard to take."
