Mindful of the distance northern hemisphere teams have to travel to contest events in Australia, Skip LISSIMAN has consulted with Sir James HARDY and the Royal Sydney Yacht Squadron, to tie the Warren Jones Youth Regatta in with the Hardy Cup, so this year they run on consecutive weeks, which makes it worth while for northern hemisphere competitors to come all the way to Australia. As part of the co-operation with other international events, it has also been arranged for the winner to get an automatic invitation to an international Match Racing event, with a support package part of the winner's spoils.
The 2005 Warren Jones Youth Regatta will be sailed on Matilda Bay, Swan River in the Western Australian Yachting Foundation's matched fleet of Foundation 36 yachts, renowned for their speed and easy manoeuvrability. The bay is surrounded by great vantage points to view the racing for spectators and sponsors alike or take to the water and be in amongst the yacht on yacht action.
The format and timing for this event makes it attractive to both competitors and spectators.
2004 winner Simon MINORPRIO described the regatta as 'awesome', saying 'it was awesome competitors, awesome racing, it was really good competition over here, with the Australians like Mike DUNSTAN, and Laurie JURY from back home.'
