WSSRC Record
Hampshire, Great Britain

The World Sailing Speed Record Council (WSSRC) has ratified the Outright World Sailing Speed Record of Finian MAYNARD (IVB) and the Outright World Women's Sailing Speed Record of Karin YAGGI (SUI).
In the WSSRC Newsletter number 90 John REED, Secretary to the WSSRC, confirmed the ratification of the two records set last Sunday 10 April on the purpose built canal at St. Maries de la Mer, France.

The Outright World Sailing Speed Record, already held by MAYNARD after he broke Simon McKEON's (AUS) eleven year old record last November, has been improved by 1.88 knots to 48.7 knots. Onboard windsurfer F2/Naish MAYNARD covered 501 metres in just 20 seconds to break his former record and edge ever closer to the magic 50 knot barrier. He also broke the 10 sq. m Class Record.

The Outright World Women's Sailing Speed Record had stood for almost twelve year since Babethe COQUELLE (FRA) reached 40.05 knots in Tarifa in July 1993. YAGGI on F2/Arrows took 23.61 seconds to cover 501 metres reaching 41.25 knots to better COQUELLE's speed by 1.20 knots.
