'This announcement comes as both a disappointment to the Board of Directors and to Rick who is unable to relocate from Toronto to Kingston for family reasons,' stated Dan SARGEANT in Saint John. 'Having the Executive Director resident in Kingston is important and unfortunately Rick is no longer able to make that move.'

JANES brought to the CYA a wealth of experience in sports marketing and general management. He was the founder of the sponsorship marketing agency MacLaren Momentum and Executive Vice-President of MacLaren McCann, one of the leading marketing communications companies in Canada. JANES will be leaving the CYA in July and concentrating his efforts on current marketing activities in the meantime. Plans to conduct an executive search are now in the planning stage.

'The need to be resident in Kingston is important to the leadership of the Association. However disappointing this announcement may be to me personally, I think we have helped to instil the need to aggressively market our sport in Canada and give it the profile it deserves as a sponsorship consideration,' stated JANES in his address to the Board. 'I hope the organization will continue in this direction and I look forward to assisting in any way that I can.'

Established in 1931, the Canadian Yachting Association is the national governing for sailing and recreational boating in Canada. The Association manages the Canadian Sailing Team with primary funding from Sport Canada. With head offices located at Portsmouth Olympic Harbour in Kingston, Ontario, the Canadian Yachting Association is one of the most respected amateur sport organizations in the country.
