All three have delivered results when it matters over the past few years and hold five World Championship titles between them as well as a string of European and ISAF Sailing World Cup medals.

Korzits comes into London 2012 having won back to back RS:X World Championship titles at the 2011 ISAF Worlds in Perth, Australia and 2012 RS:X Worlds in Cadiz, Spain. The Israeli also won the Mistral world title at the 2003 ISAF Worlds and knows how to work the windsurfer.

Poland's Klepacka has pushed Korzits all the way finishing second behind her in Perth and Cadiz. However she has had the better of Korzits on Olympic waters having won the Weymouth and Portland International Regatta, Olympic Test Event, last year as well as an ISAF Sailing World Cup regatta shortly before London 2012.

London 2012 will be Klepacka's third Olympic Games after she finished 12th in the Mistral at Athens 2004 and seventh at Beijing 2008.

Alabau narrowly missed out on a medal at Beijing 2008, her first Olympic Games, to Great Britain's Bryony Shaw. The Spaniard has competed on Weymouth and Portland waters four times and finished on the podium every time including a gold medal at the 2009 RS:X Worlds.

Out of the three favourites Alabau's size could prove advantageous if the wind is light throughout the competition but all have the credentials, expertise and experience on the big stage and seeing all three on the podium would not be a shock.

Pushing the trio all the way will be four time Olympic medallist Alessandra Sensini who will be sailing at her sixth Olympic Games. She proved that she can still cut it with the best after her third place at the 2012 RS:X Worlds. Sensini brings a wealth of experience that cannot be rivalled throughout the fleet.

Beijing 2008 bronze medallist Bryony Shaw (GBR) will have home water knowledge but her results throughout the past 18 months lack the glamour of Korzits, Alabau, Klepacka and Sensini. Nonetheless she'll be pushing all the way to be on the podium for the second consecutive Olympic Games.

Other sailors aiming to rise to the occasion and compete for top honours will be Australia's Jessica Crisp, Germany's Moana Delle, Charline Picon (FRA), Nikola Girke (CAN) and Olga Maslivets (UKR).

The Women's RS:X fleet set sail after the Men's RS:X on Tuesday 31 July on the Weymouth Bay West Course. The fleet enjoy a lay day on 3 August before racing resumes on 4 August. The Women's 470 will play to the Nothe Spectator area on 7 August where the gold medallists will be decided after the Medal Race.
