RYA Publications Android App competition winner announced

Celebrating RYA Books App being available on the Google Play Store

Susan Bonnar from Lee-on-the-Solent, Hampshire has been chosen as the lucky winner in the RYA Android App competition, winning herself a Google Nexus 7.

The competition launched in January to celebrate the launch of the RYA Books App being available on the Google Play Store.

Entrants simply had to re-tweet the RYA Publications Android launch messages and from all those who re-tweeted, Susan clinched the winner’s prize.

“I am thrilled to be the winner of the Nexus. I never win anything!” commented Susan on her win.

95,000 downloads

The RYA Books App was launched to the Android market through the Google Play Store following the huge success of the RYA Books app in the iTunes App Store (September 2011).

So far there have been some 95,000 downloads of the free RYA books app, through the iTunes and Google Play Store.

“We couldn’t be happier about how well the RYA Books App has been received both via iTunes and on Android and we are looking to expand our Android App to include the Kindle Fire sometime in the future”, commented Steen Ingerslev, RYA Publications Manager.

“The RYA eBooks really seem to be proving very popular with readers and by offering a selection of eBooks covering both sail and power on both platforms means we have something for everyone.”

Added extras

The free RYA Books App includes taster editions so you can have a look at what the eBooks are all about before you buy, as well as a selection of RYA titles for you to purchase and download in full.

Including additional video and animation content makes the eBooks a valuable aid to instructors; helping to bring the teaching points to life, as well as being useful from a students’ point of view.

When asked about the eBooks our competition winner Susan commented: “The RYA eBooks are a brilliant idea - my 10 year old sailing mad Son has some downloaded to his ipad!

“It is really great to be able to preview books before purchasing!  I grew up in a sailing household with lots of sailing books and where it was quite normal to finish dinner with practising the racing rules with our Elstrom plastic boats and wind arrows and the salt and pepper as marker buoys! To have access to this information electronically is brilliant!”
