Up the River Lynher
The RYA Guide to the River Lynher or St Germans River shows you secluded anchorages and a tranquil finishing point at St Germans Quay
This month we take a look at the River Lynher or St Germans River running up to Dandy Hole anchorage and St Germans Quay set in the beautiful Cornish countryside.
The river flows through east Cornwall, passing St Germans, entering the River Tamar at the Hamoaze, which in turn flows into Plymouth Sound.
The river is approximately 21 miles (34 km long), rising at a height of approximately 920 feet (280m) on Bodmin Moor and flowing into the Tamar Estuary near Plymouth.
Its estuary is a designated Site of Special Scientific Interest and also a Special Protection Area. Many species of animals can be found here, including the kingfisher, otter, dipper, avocet, and black-tailed godwit.
The river offers beautiful secluded anchorages and a tranquil finishing point at St Germans Quay.
Follow the route up the river with the RYA Guide to the River Lynher. The guide provides pilotage notes, pictures and information on the places to eat, visitor moorings and historical sites.
