Plymouth Clipper Takes Race Five

Matt Baker (skipper) and the crew of Plymouth Clipper crossed the finishing line at Honolulu today, Sunday 21st January, at 1045 GMT (0045 Hawaii Standard Time) to take victory in Race 5 of The Times Clipper 2000.
Bristol Clipper crossed the line at 1248 GMT (0248 HST) to take second place, whilst a fierce battle ensues for third place between London Clipper with 18 miles to run, Jersey Clipper with 24.2 miles, followed closely by Liverpool Clipper with only 25 miles to go. The first five boats will be separated by less than 9 hours after over three weeks of racing and 4,400 miles. On arrival in Honolulu, The Times Clipper 2000 crews will enjoy 10-day stopover, following a challenging and particularly long second leg which has taken the fleet from Cuba to Hawaii, via Panama and Galapagos. New crewmembers will be welcomed in Hawaii before The Times Clipper 2000 re-starts on 2nd February for the third leg of the journey, which crosses to Japan, then up the Yangtze River to Shanghai and on to Hong Kong.
