One week after the opening of the office where entries for Sunday October 12th regatta (the most crowded in the world) are completed, 541 people have already formalised their registration, a number which shows a slight increase compared to 2001, when the total of 1969 entries was reached.

YOUNG BARCOLANA

The wind was the only missing element on the first day of the Young Barcolana 4th edition organised by Promo Sail and the Società Velica di Barcola e Grignano with the partnership of Fondazione CRTrieste and Unicredit Banca.

All 472 Optimists coming from Italy, Greece, Turkey, Slovenia, Switzerland, Austria, Croatia and Poland have been waiting in vain for the wind to come. Tomorrow, on the second day of race, they will all have the opportunity to make up for today: the first start will be given at 10.00.

Despite the lack of wind, Young Barcolana, as is the case for older sailors (who will be taking sea on Sunday October 12th), remains a very cheerful event. The impact of hundreds of little sails whitening the Gulf of Trieste has been impressive.
In the evening the young sailors will have dinner at the hospitality tent next to the Piazzetta Barcolana (near the Info Point and the area reserved for the event main sponsors) and they will have the occasion to make new friends and give each other technical opinions and suggestions about the regatta.

Trieste is waiting for "Barcolana bigs" to arrive, but many other classic and prestigious boats are going to participate with the same spirit as professional sailors, who prefer to race onboard highly competitive carbon hulls. Among the entries there is also Shalom, the 50 footer designed by a master of international yachting, the Trieste born designer Carlo Sciarrelli. The boat, which is owned by Mario Pecorari, will be on the start line in Category 1, next to an "old glory" of Barcolana, Fanatic, the winner of three editions.
