This will be the 35th team Canada has sent to the Youth Worlds, which take place from the 14-23 July. Only in 1975 have they failed to be represented. They lie 13th in medal table with two gold, four silver and four bronze medals. The last time the Youth Worlds were held in Asia, back in 1997 in Fukuoka, Japan, Bernard LUTTMER walked away with a silver medal in the Laser boys event. LUTTMER has gone on to success at the senior circuit and last year represented his country at the Olympic Games. This year he recently secured victory in the ISAF Grade 2 Laser Pacific Coast Championship.

The Canadian Youth World team this year consists of four sailors and a coach.

The four sailors are:

• Single-handed dinghy boys - Laser Standard
  Luke RAMSAY
• Single-handed dinghy girls - Laser Radial
  Danielle DUBE
• Double-handed dinghy boys - 420
  Billy GOODERHAM and Dan MCTAVISH

Luke RAMSAY from Vancouver will sail in the Laser. RAMSAY has been training year round, mostly in his hometown, Vancouver and has already appeared on the senior circuit several times. His results have been impressive with his best performances giving him top ten finishes in the ISAF Grade 2 Pacific Coast Championship 2004 and this year's ISAF Grade 2 Laser Midwinters West. RAMSAY plans on sailing most of the North American circuit before heading out to Korea.

Danielle DUBE is the Canadian representative in the Laser Radial, the Olympic class in which a Canadian, Keamia RASA, currently leads the ISAF World Sailing Rankings. The single-handed dinghy for girls is also the event in which Canada last scored success, when Jennifer SPALDING won their second Youth Worlds gold medal at the 2002 Championship on home waters in Lunenburg. After a first year in University, DUBE is now training full time with the Atlantic coast athletes. Most recently she sailed at the Lilac Festival and finished sixth right behind some of the members of the Canadian Sailing Team. She also sailed at the Icebreaker Regatta and participated in a training camp in Toronto with Tommy WHARTON and guests.

Billy GOODERHAM and Dan MCTAVISH form the only Canadian entry in the double-handed events in the 420 boys. Both have been training hard over winter and spring to prepare for Busan. They have just recently purchased an International 420 to perfect their skills before the series of events they plan to do in Europe and Asia this summer. This week the pair are in Kiel, Germany fighting for honours in the massive 420 fleet competing in the Kieler Woche.

Al CLARK as been appointed to play the double role of coach and team leader. CLARK is a very experienced Laser sailor and the High Performance coach at Royal Vancouver Yacht Club.
