Gold and silver fleets in place
Europe World Championship
Hamilton Harbour
The name of the game at the Europe world championships seems to be starting, those that were mastering this at the beginning of the race were getting the results at the end of it.
Sarah Blanck of Australia is the key example, she has been steady and consistent in her starting, which has enabled her to break out from the pack in light and patchy winds and dominate the one-way track in Hamilton harbour. Discarding nothing worse than a fifth she has extended her lead to fifteen points over Siren Sundby of Norway going into the final series, where the fleet are split into gold and silver for the last four races.
There was no racing on day five of the world championship yesterday as the 109 competitors in the women's fleet will enjoy a well-deserved lay day. The final series of the championships will take place today and tomorrow when the sailors will race in gold and silver fleets, with the winner of the gold fleet taking home the title of Europe world champion.
