Yesterday showed no mercy in the Mistral fleet with big westerly winds, providing a physical and demanding day for all competitors. 3 races were sailed.
In the womens fleet, Natasha Sturges (GBR) who just missed out on a medal at last months pre-Olympic test event in Athens, moved up into a podium position at the Europeans after scoring one of the best days in the fleet. Sailing to her first race win in the first race of the day, which she followed up with a fifth and a third.
Alessandra Sensini of Italy has taken over the lead of the class, with Lise Vidal of France in second place.
In the men's fleet the day was dominated by Polish sailor Przemek Miarczynski, who sailed a perfect day, scoring three race wins out of three races. Nick Dempsey (GBR) was hot on his heels, scoring two second places and a tenth place, saw him move up into fourth place overall and just two point away from 1996 gold medallist Nikos Kaklamanakis (GRE).
Nicolas Beudou of France, who took silver at the Hyeres Olympic Classes Regatta back in April, is currently leading the class from team mate Alexandre Guyader.
With still another three days of racing left to sail, there is a long way to go. The race committee have decided to sail the fleet as one instead of splitting the competitors up, the consequences of this could be a very high scoring regatta, as a bad day could mean a 70th position.
