Berlin Match Race 2005
Berlin, Germany

Jochen SCHUEMANN (GER) has won this year's ISAF Grade 2 Berlin Match Race on his home waters after a terrific display in yesterday's final. Denmark's Michael HESTBAEK was at the receiving end of the German's dominance losing all the three final matches against the three-time Olympic Champion.
SCHUEMANN commented, 'This victory makes me very happy, since this is such a great event. It has also proved to me that particularly Match Racing receives more and more public attention in Germany!'

Second placed HESTBAEK representing United Internet Team Germany was more than delighted with the outcome, since he has never before competed in an top international match race event. He enthused, 'This is unbelievable. We have never expected to come that far! It really was an honour to sail against Jochen SCHUEMANN in the final.'

The petit final was decided in a best of three-format with Bjorn HANSEN of Sweden winning both his matches against Markus WIESER (GER) sailing for the hosts Verein Seglerhaus am Wannsee.

Due to perfect sailing conditions and bright sunny skies a crowd of more than 1,000 fans were closely following the action from several spectator vessels.

The 14th edition of the Berlin Match Race was a great success and all the competitors promised to come back next year. Event organizer Frank BUTZMANN made it clear that the organizers are prepared, 'We're happy and already looking forward to the 15th edition of the Berlin Match Race.'
