ISAF Nations Cup 2013 - Regional Final South America
Mar de Plata, Argentina

Brazil's Henrique Haddad and Juliana Senftt overcame their Argentinean competitors at the ISAF Nations Cup South American Regional Final in Mar del Playa, Argentina to qualify for November's Grand Final.
Organized by Club Nautico Mar del Plata Haddad was tied at 2-2 with Juan Ignacio Grimaldi (ARG) whilst Senftt was locked in at the same score with Martina Silva. The race to four points was on.

Among the ladies the Silva sisters started better in the first race of the day, clearly won the start and began to stretch the difference, but a sudden change of wind forced the cancellation of the race. When the race was restarted the Argentineans took to the front again, but Senft attacked and managed to pull a penalty luffing at the beat and took the lead through to the end. In the next race the Brazilian team clearly won the start and gave no passing lanes to her rivals to win the championship 4-2.

In the Open category there was even more suspense. Grimaldi and Haddad had an even start but the Brazilian team defended the right of the course and went ahead at the first mark. On the run Grimaldi attacked and at the leward mark Haddad was red flagged to hand the race win to the Argentines to go ahead 3-2. Haddad was again at the front in the next race defending the right side of the course. A luffing duel during the first beat ended with another penalty for the Brazilian team but they maintained the lead. Haddad was able to clear his penalty in the second beat and was still ahead, but exposed to Grimaldi's final attack the run. It was a photofinish final and Haddad took a narrow win. In the last race of the day the "Giant" Haddad had a better start and defended his lead all the way without giving the local team any chance and sealing the final 4-3.
