The Big Weekend

This year’s RYA Scotland Big Weekend 23 – 24 February 2013, supported by MalinWaters, is shaping up to be a great event – with boats and equipment on show as well as practical demonstrations and talks and the Cruise 13 event.

Tickets cost only £5 for a day for the Big Weekend and kids under 16 go free with an adult - what a bargain!

Practical demonstrations and talks include: Basic outboard maintenance, Starting to Skiff, First Aid on boats, Coding for RIBS with Bas Edmonds and also a talk on getting the perfect sailing photograph with Marc Turner

We are delighted that Scotland’s own, Luke Patience Olympic silver medallist at the 2012 Games will be joining us for a Q and A session – so get your questions ready for Luke!

DDZ Marine will have a trade stand at the Big Weekend and will be exhibiting the new Bavaria B/one sports boat designed by Farr yacht Design. They will also be bringing with them a fantastic selection of the latest marine electronics and navigation equipment.

Hurricane Mouldings will also be coming along to the Big Weekend for the first time to show off their ever expanding marine range. Hurricane is a UK based manufacturer of high quality fenders and are able to offer a customised service by incorporating logos or boat names into the production process.

Gareth Houston from Hurricane Mouldings had the following to say when asked why they had decided to exhibit at the event in Largs:

“We saw the Big Weekend advertised and with it being a local event we thought we should support it. As we are members of the British Marine Federation we thought we should support RYA Scotland. We are also trying see what marine trade there is in Scotland and see what opportunities there are. We are mainly hoping to make people aware that we are a local fender manufacturer and also to increase the awareness of our own brand”.

The Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park Authority are really pleased to be able to attend RYA Scotland’s Big Weekend in February too.

“In this Year of Natural Scotland, it is more important than ever for us to understand the importance of our natural environment and what we can do to help conserve and enhance it” said Charlotte Wallace, Education and Volunteer Manager at Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park.

“Our ranger staff will be at the event on Sunday the 24th and they’ll be aiming to provide an update on the Loch Lomond Byelaw Review, what that means for you and how we aim to continue our work to protect beautiful Loch Lomond.”

A number of clubs will also be taking stands in the club and classes hall to promote their events and activities for the 2013 season including Clyde Cruising Club promoting the Scottish Series and Tummel Sailing Club promoting their family sailing week.
