X-Train Rippers Freestyle Camp (27/28 October 2012)

The Rippers Freestyle Camp will be running for a second year from the West Wittering Windsurf Club (WWWC) beach venue, which offers one of the UK’s best flat-water freestyle locations at low tide and then a fantastic wave spot at high tide.

The Rippers Freestyle Camp will be running for a second year from the West Wittering Windsurf Club (WWWC) beach venue, which offers one of the UK’s best flat-water freestyle locations at low tide and then a fantastic wave spot at high tide.

This particular weekend has been selected to get the most out of the tides and so should offer the best and greatest range of conditions for aspiring freestylers and wave sailors alike. The coaches are Sam Ross and Jamie Drummond, who bring to the weekend a host of experience with almost 2 decades of windsurfing coaching between them, and that’s not all -  between them they compete and judge on the PWA world tour, offer instructor training and hold UK titles. Trevor Funnell and Julian Duvall will also be on hand on Sunday – with practical advice on competing in the UKWA freestyle tour.

Last year’s camp was a great success with 17 young rippers enrolled, all improving hugely over the weekend and a full wave and freestyle competition to finish. As far as minimum ability level you need to be planing in the foot straps. Groups are divided according to ability levels. X-Train also has additional equipment to help young sailors make the most out of the weekend, and the venue offers hot showers, changing facilities, kitchen and rescue cover.

To book, please call 01243 513077 or contact X-Train by email at info@x-train.co.uk. Prices are £120 for the 2 days which includes a free Rippers Tee-shirt. If you need hire gear we can offer a 50% discount of our day rate. Sups and surfboards will be provided free if required.

For further information including an itinerary, check out the event website.

Tiree Wave Classic

For the aspiring wave sailors amongst you, you might like to attend the Tiree Wave Classic, either as a spectactor, or to participate. The date for the event is 13-19 October 2012.

For general information about the event, visit the BWA website.

Weymouth Speed Week

If speed is your thing, then you won't want to miss the world famous Weymouth Speed week held on Portland Harbour, the birthplace of speed sailing.

Weymouth Speed Week is open to all types of craft, ages and ability running from Saturday 6th - Friday 12th October.

This year is the 40th anniversary of speed week, which is an extremely popular event attracting a real cross-section; young, old, first-timers to hardened old hands. It's the oldest running speed event on the planet with a mix of fun, good competition and social, encouraging people to come back year after year.

Tushingham/Starboard are sponsoring the Junior Competition which takes place over the weekend of 6/7 October, which some great prizes to be won, including a Tushingham X-15 sail.

Visit the event website for further information and to enter online, but be quick, places go fast...

BSA Master Blasters

Master Blaster involves racing from the beach, out to a buoy and back again, beating as many people as you can. Great fun! Suitable for all club level sailors - T15 sailors, their parents, coaches, anyone really! If you can windsurf then give it a go - we think you'll be hooked!

Seven events are scheduled to take place around the country ending with the BSA Grande Finale! If you fancy having a go at a Master Blaster event, then turn up and join in the fun. For details check out the BSA website.

UKWA Inland Events

These events are suitable for Team15 sailors, as well as their parents and older siblings. Fun, social events aimed at existing windsurfers who want to have a go at racing. There are some very good racers who compete, but equally, there are lots of newcomers who join in and soon improve.

For Team15 sailors some of these events offer the opportunity of a coached event alongside the racing. Since this is an opportunity not to be missed, visit the Open Training Opportunities page for further information.

Also visit the UKWA website for more details about the association and the various racing disciplines and events it runs.

National Windsurfing Festival

What an event - without question - the best yet! So busy and what a great atmosphere... about 500 people on the water. The Turbo15, master blasters, SUP sessions, demo sessions, taster sessions, coaching clinics, tow in night freestyle competition, large sums raised for W4CR, excellent bands and parties, a very busy trade tent... what a positive atmosphere and great energy. Sun throughout and sun & wind on the Sunday, so all came good.

Team15 sailors should onsider taking part in the event next year (dates TBC), espeially the BSA Turbo15 event, which offers sailors under the age of 16, the opportunity to compete in their own series during the weekend and join up with the pro's for a spot of twilight windsurf action. Here's what Megan Kraft from the Spray Spites had to say about this year's Turbo15...

The 2012 National Windsurfing Festival featured at Hayling Island (Inn on the Beach) over the weekend of 7-9 September. For reports & photos from the 2012 event, check out the NWF website.
