David McMullin of Devizes, Wiltshire has clinched the winner’s prize in the RYA Day Skipper Handbook – Sail prize draw launched at the PSP Southampton Boat Show in September 2012.

Simply by purchasing a copy of the book David has won a five day RYA Day Skipper practical course courtesy of Hamble School of Yachting.

A surprised winner

Of his win David commented: “How exciting! I am sure when most people enter any prize draw they rarely believe they will win.  I am totally surprised and absolutely delighted to win this prize, especially with it being so practical as well.

“I will get great benefit from attending the RYA Day Skipper Sail Practical Course, especially as I was considering completing one this year anyway! Maybe it was just meant to be!”

About the book

The RYA Day Skipper Handbook – Sail is the official handbook supporting the RYA Day Skipper Sail Course and is ideal for anyone looking to brush up on their knowledge to this level.

It gives great practical and detailed advice on key skills, expanding on the course companion notes.

It leads you through practical advice on Day Skippering in three logical sections; Practical Skills, Navigation & Passage Making and Safety, covering all the theoretical and practical aspects of the RYA Day Skipper Sail syllabus, giving you all you need to know to take a small yacht on a short passage safely.

When asked about the book and why he purchased a copy, David explained: “Over the last few years, I have taken several RYA Courses to develop my knowledge and experience on the water, both practical and theory.

“I was considering taking the RYA Day Skipper Sail Practical Course this year after I recently completed the RYA Day Skipper Practical Theory Course, followed by the RYA Coastal Skipper/Yachtmaster Theory Course, so it made total sense to buy the RYA Day Skipper Handbook - Sail prior to taking the course, as well as to further increase my knowledge in this area.

“The RYA books supporting all of their courses are well written, easily understood with simple and clear illustrations. This being a new publication, I was happy to wait for its release at the Southampton Boat Show 2012, which was where I bought it, and where I entered the prize draw!

Huge fan

“Personally, I am a huge RYA fan. Their courses are the benchmark for others Worldwide, with supporting publications and merchandise of a similar standing to compliment them.

“I believe the RYA Day Skipper Handbook – Sail is a must, not only for anyone intending to take the RYA Day Skipper Sail Practical Course, but also those new to sailing, as well as the more experienced sailors. It acts as a first class reference book for everything sailing.”
