Criminal Records Disclosures

The RYA can help clubs and centres to access Criminal Records checks on volunteers or staff who will work with young people or vulnerable adults.

In Scotland the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) scheme has replaced Disclosures for people undertaking 'regulated work' with children or protected adults.  Please see the guidance document on the right for more information.

In England and Wales, the Criminal Records Bureau and Independent Safeguarding Authority have now merged to become the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).  Our latest guidance on eligibility for checks and on the checking process can be downloaded from the links on the right.  Further changes are expected to be implemented over the next few months.  Up to date information on the process, together with amended guidance on checking forms and identity documents, will automatically be sent out to any organisation requesting a supply of DBS forms.

The RYA will continue to monitor developments and provide up to date information and guidance as it becomes available.
