Sad passing of John Durie 

John Durie, former Secretary General of the RYA has sadly passed away.

It is with sadness that we announce the death of John Durie, Secretary General of the RYA from the mid ‘70s to the mid ‘80s.

John was the first Secretary General of the RYA following the division of the RYA and the IYRU (ISAF).

Whereas his predecessors had been joint Secretary General of both organisations, John was faced with the task of forging a new-style RYA, which embraced all forms of boating, and galvanising new staff to take it forward.

This he did with aplomb through good man-management and approachability.  John also had an excellent sense of humour which proved a great asset on many occasions.
