Your clubs’ chance to get involved in 2012 Olympic Games 

With 2012 fast approaching LOCOG, the organisers of the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, have asked the RYA to assist in supplying RIBs for the Games and preceding test events.

This is a unique chance for your club to get involved in the most high profile sailing regatta ever to be held on British waters, as to ensure that this Olympics impacts as far and wide in the sport as possible, the RYA is pleased to accept an 'expression of interest' from clubs to supply RIBs at the following Olympic events:

• 2011 Olympic Test Event – 31 July–13 August
• 2011 IFDS World Championships (an organized RYA event) – 1-8 July
• 2012 Olympic Games – 28 July–8 August
• 2012 Paralympic Games – 29 August–9 September

Volunteer positions to assist at the Olympic Games will be strongly sought after, so this is your chance to get involved and be a part of the biggest sporting event in the world. Each successful club that supplies a RIB will be guaranteed two places for suitably qualified people to crew the RIBs for the duration of the Olympic or Paralympic Games. Your club will also be able to announce its involvement with the Games on its website.

Applications will be reviewed on the following basis:

• RIBs must be from 5.5 metres to 6.5 metres in length
• It must have a suitable outboard, from 60hp to 150hp, and is appropriate to the size of the RIB (e.g. not a 150hp on 5.5metre)
• It must have a 4-stroke engine to comply with the LOCOG environmental philosophy RIBS must carry full safety equipment
• There is no age limit for crew but they should reflect your club’s membership and be well-prepared and hopefully be proud to be linked to such a significant event
• Two crew per boat will be required to carry out duties at the Test Event and the Games
• Expenses are not normally paid for LOCOG Events
• Boats will be required for the Test Event and the Games
• Additional boats will be required for the Paralympic Games and these boats may be required by the RYA for the 2011 IFDS World Championships
• No advertising or commercial endorsements will be allowed and successful applicants will need to agree to the requirements of LOCOG before being considered.
