Nominations open for RYA Regional Young Sailor of the Year Award 2012

Who will be your region's Young Sailor of the Year?

The RYA has begun the search for 2012’s most inspiring young sailors by officially opening nominations for the RYA Regional Young Sailor of the Year Award 2012 today (Tuesday 28 August).

The RYA Regional Young Sailor of the Year awards are a fantastic opportunity for clubs and class associations to recognise the outstanding impact young people have made to UK boating, whether it’s on the race course, at their club, overcoming adversity or through an exceptional achievement.

“It is fantastic to be recognised for giving back what I have been given in teaching skills, this gives me a sense of achievement from passing on my experience and knowledge to others” said Luke Hagon who won the RYA South East Young Sailor of the Year award last year.

Each RYA Regional Young Sailor of the Year winner will be automatically put forward for the National YJA Pantaenius Young Sailor of the Year Award, with three finalists shortlisted by members of the Yachting Journalist’s Association.

RYA Chief Executive Sarah Treseder said: “The awards are a fantastic opportunity to recognise the achievements of young people in our sport. This year, more than ever, young people around the country have been leading activity at their clubs and showcasing our sport to the nation.

“These awards would not be possible without your nominations so please start looking out for your winning sailor, windsurfer, powerboater or jet skier”.

RYA regional winners and their families will be treated to a VIP day out at the Tullett Prebon London Boat Show where the National YJA Pantaenius Young Sailor of the Year winner will be announced.
