Welcome to the Hunts Sailing Club Website

Hunts Sailing Club, located at St Ives, close to Huntingdon, Cambridge, and Peterborough in NW Cambridgeshire, provides class racing for Solo, Enterprise, Phantom, and Laser Class dinghies, as well as an all comers handicap. We are a very family oriented club, with youth sail training, and several multi-generation families, with father vs son, daughter and wives competition in and across classes! Cambridge Schools and Youth Sailing Association would like to invite all sailors under the age of 19 on 1st September 2011 to two events in the forthcoming months.

24th- 30th July NSSA National Youth Regatta at Grafham Water Sailing Club. (Early bird discount ends on 20th June.)

25th-26th June CSYSA training at Rutland Water.

A very big thankyou to everyone who helped to make the Jubilee Cup hog roast a success. I couldn't have done it without you. Lots of members were involved in the preparation and organisation and running of the event, but I would especially like to thank Deb Alcock for her support and hard work before, during and after the event.
 

RYA Race Coach Course

RYA Race Coach Level 2 Course to be held at Hunts SC, 6th & 7th August, Cost £50, to be paid prior to the course.  Members only in the first instance.

This course is an intense weekend looking at the theory of coaching and applying it in a practical series of on the water exercises. Each candidate will be expected to run complete sessions including a brief, on the water exercises with feedback and a debrief. The aim of the course is to provide candidates with skills and techniques to coach racing to youth and adult sailors.

RYA Racing Coach Level 2 Definition: ‘A qualified RYA Racing Coach Level 2 is a good club racer with personal knowledge of club and/or regional racing and a broad basis of coaching skills. They will be able to deliver and award Start, Intermediate and Advanced Racing where appropriate, working at affiliated clubs or recognised training centres.’

Eligibility to become a Racing Coach Level 2

• Appropriate racing experience (guide = good club racer)
• Appropriate current racing knowledge (classes/pathways)
• RYA Powerboat Level 2 certificate
• A valid RYA recommended first aid certificate (6 hours duration and covering hypothermia)
• Minimum age 16. Level 2 Coaches aged under 18 should be appropriately supervised by an adult who is either a Senior Instructor or a Racing Coach Level 2 or above.
• Previous instructing experienced is preferred but is not essential if the candidate has suitable alternative experience.

There are six places available and candidates will be selected by the RYA.  The course will be run using lasers (rig according to personal size) and candidates should in the first instance try to source their own before resorting to hiring club boats.  If club boats are used the day hire rate will be applicable.

2. Scroll down the page and click on the link to coaching courses

3. Click on courses and then fill in the online form for the course you wish to apply for

4. A confirmation email will be sent to say we have received your application

5. Once the application is approved a further email will be sent asking for payment and explaining which exercise you have been allocated - this can be downloaded form the coaching courses area of the website

6. Payment is required to guarantee a place on the course and must be made prior to the start of the course

7. Payment reminders will be sent every 2 weeks until the payment is made (by following the instructions on the payment request email)
