NOTICE
TO MEMBERS FROM THE FLAG OFFICERS AND COMMITTEE
The Flag Officers and Committee will bring
forward to the Club’s AGM on 19 November a proposal that, provided we secure
certain official approvals, the Club will transfer its assets and operations to
a new limited company Clyde Cruising Club Limited.
Full details of the proposal are available here.
Commodore's Welcome
It gives me pleasure to welcome members and guests to this website where
you will find information on the wide and varied activities of the Club – I
hope you enjoy reading it.
All too quickly September with its darker nights is upon us and I hope
you have enjoyed some good sailing wherever you have been – the West Coast has
fared relatively well for weather compared to many parts of the country.
The Club’s busy calendar of events has been well attended particularly
the cruising musters – following on from the successful Opening Muster at Rhu
and the Ladies’ and Juniors’ Muster at Port Bannatyne, at Loch Spelve we had
well over 100 people of all ages (from 31 yachts, a couple of ribs and some
from Mull came by road!) who thoroughly enjoyed the Mussel Supper kindly
provided by Douglas and Helen Wilson of the Inverlussa Mussel Farm - we are
very grateful to them indeed.
On the racing side some events have fared better and some not so well as
last year often depending upon the weather forecast. We hope the weather will
be kind over the next few weeks as we look forward to good turnouts for the GSS
Regatta on the Upper Firth of Clyde and the Closing Muster to Tarbert.
Interest has been rising in the Blue Water Trophy Race and Cruise in
Company to Brittany via Dublin next July. This has been a very important event
in the Club’s history and we hope a good number of yachts will take part –
watch the website and September’s Tidelines for more information.
The Brewin Dolphin Scottish Series was a great success with sunny
weather and some exciting sailing - the overall prize went to Grant Gordon and
his crew on the J97 Fever Glenfiddich who proved worthy
winners. The new marquee complex on the north side of the harbour was very
popular and the village's Jubilee celebrations culminated in a spectacular
fireworks display. Grateful thanks are due to our sponsors and to the army of
volunteers who made the smooth running of the event possible. Plans
are already under way for the 2013 Series with the racing format evolving as
ever to reflect feedback received and we hope entries will be boosted by the
very positive reaction from all concerned to the 2012 event.
The Dinghy Section has had another busy season of training and racing
with many sailors faring extremely well at events away from home. The summer
school has been fully subscribed with courses for all ages and abilities. The
Sailability Challenger fleet had an excellent Open Weekend with 14 boats racing
some coming from far afield.
I hope from this brief review you can perhaps appreciate the extent of the Club’s activities - look through the website and you will see much more. I wish you all good sailing over the remainder of the season.
