This chronicles
our experiences whilst cruising aboard our 'home', Yacht Seerose,
a 44' Barens
Seatrader steel ketch,
for five wonderful years. We reversed the "Cape of Good Hope (Cape
Town) Cruising Route" and sailed from Durban, South Africa up the
East African coast (Mozambique Channel, Tanzania, the mystical Zanzibar Island
and Kenya), and then across the Indian Ocean to Phuket, South East Asia where
we cruised for several years in the region.
INDIAN
OCEAN SAILING AND CRUISING
The East coast of Africa is a fascinating sailing area but sadly,
not a region explored by many cruisers. We chose to sail up the East
African side of the Mozambique Channel, sailing close inshore to escape the
south flowing current, rather than the Madagascar coast and consequently
discovered a whole new world rarely visited by cruising yachts.
We sold the yacht in 1998 - a decision we shall always regret. Hopefully,
through this website, you will share our experiences and enjoy our
memories of when we sailed the Indian Ocean and islands on yacht 'Seerose'.
Please sign our GUESTBOOK - we
would love to know that you are interested
in sailing around East Africa & the Indian Ocean islands and that
you visited this website.
Announcement:
My loving wife Sally (the Admiral) tragically
passed away in 2009. She underwent relatively minor surgery but never recovered after 14 days in ICU. She was deeply loved by all who knew her and will definitely be sailing amongst the clouds now - making everyone around her smile and laugh. She was the greatest navigator ever - at sea and in life! Fair winds
"Paulie"! - Bob
