{A pretty gift: a heart vase that now lives on our bookshelf}
I spent most of this week in Mill Valley with my parents finishing up last minute wedding details and attending meetings in the city. We ate at some of my favorite restaurants (including Zuni Cafe) and hunkered down inside during less than stellar weather. It’ll be nice to get back to L.A. this afternoon just in time for a weekend that includes The Hunger Games, more errands than I’d like to think about, and some quality time spent at home.

Though it’s technically spring, we’ve been experiencing some truly conflicted weather in California as of late. One week will be blistering and the next is met with dark clouds and severe winds. Since the climate changes are a bit difficult to embrace, I’ve pulled together a few looks that are currently inspiring me in regards to beauty and fashion (with options suitable for all kinds of temperatures).
{White button-down + scarf + sexy hair}
{Unexpected color combinations: navy + lilac}
{Middle part + dark crimson lip}
{Coral-colored accessories + oversized watch}
{Beachy waves + thick knit}
{Loose top knot + dainty necklace + floaty dress}
{Pink coat (of my dreams) + metallic heels}

Certain foods simply make me happy and pancakes pretty much top that list. I’m not sure if it’s the fluffy consistency, the way they make the entire house feel cozy, or the fact that I associate them with leisurely Sunday mornings. But regardless, they’re a staple in our house and recently, we’ve started adding them to our dinner repertoire. Breakfast at night is always a good call and these pancakes have the ability to turn an ordinary Wednesday into something special. I followed a basic recipe (and poured the batter into an empty Ketchup bottle for easy dispensing) and then topped with a rum syrup (melt together 1/2 cup sugar with 1/2 cup of rum and let cool).

For several months, I’ve been searching for the perfect pastel-meets-coral lipstick after seeing it on nearly every J.Crew model. The shade somehow strikes that balance between being punchy but sweet, and the result is a whisper soft color that just embodies spring. This past weekend I decided to make my own – with a blend of Revlon’s ‘Orange Flip’ lipstick and a bit of concealer that added just the right amount of creaminess to an otherwise fluorescent orange.
