Semi DIY – Suede Fringe Pumps

September 30th, 2010

When it comes to fall footwear, it doesn’t get much better than suede.  It’s luxurious without being prissy and has the ability to transform summery clothes into cold weather attire (as seen here and here).  These Yves Saint Laurent pumps are such a great twist on a classic and I love the impact they’d make every time you’d leave a room. I certainly can’t justify the price, which is why I’d opt for this Steve Madden alternative and simply adhere black feather fringe with a glue gun.   Easy and affordable.

Homemade English Muffins

September 29th, 2010

At brunch this past weekend, I ordered my usual Eggs Benedict, but noticed something new on the menu: it came with a homemade English Muffin.   I wasn’t sure if I’d even notice the difference, since it would be smothered in runny egg yolks, creamy sauce and a slab of ham.   But after my first bite, I vowed never to buy another package of store-bought English Muffins again.   Yesterday I made my own batch (from this recipe) and with only a handful of ingredients, they came out fluffy, chewy and filled with nooks and crannies.

Ox Blood and Black

September 28th, 2010

L.A. broke a record high of 113°F yesterday and fall couldn’t feel further away.  I’m desperate to bring out my Halloween decorations (you can see some of last year’s here), but between our impending move and the oppressive heat, it just doesn’t make sense.  Instead, I’ve rounded up some of my favorite pieces in this season’s most ominous shades: ox blood and black.  Whether it’s on my nails (I’ve been wearing Revlon’s Vixen for years) or in the form of some oversized glasses, at least I’ll be in the right frame of mind when the weather finally cools.

When I packed for New York I intentionally left some space in my suitcase to accommodate new purchases.  Maybe it’s the awkward transition from summer to fall, but I left empty handed after numerous trips to my favorite stores that typically prove to be dangerous.  One of my last attempts was a trip to Barneys, where I must have tried on twenty pairs of jeans, until I found some that are as comfortable (they’re as soft as some of my pajamas!) as they are flattering.  I’m sure I’ll pull out my skinny jeans once it’s boot weather (so I can tuck them into these and these), but for now I’m completely smitten with the wide leg variety.
