RYA unveil two great new titles at PSP Southampton Boat Show

Authors visit the show to talk about new books...

On Saturday (15 September) the RYA unveiled two great new publications with a little help from the book’s authors.

At midday respected boating journalist and author of the new RYA Yacht Sailing Techniques book, Jeremy Evans, joined the RYA’s Emma Slater to tell visitors all about the book, from how he goes about getting started when writing a new book to his favourite sailing grounds.

The book is packed full of useful bite sized pieces of information and some fantastic images as Jeremy explained: “It was a deliberate style choice to have small chunks of information with lots of great images throughout to really bring the text to life and make it easy to digest what you are reading and learning.”

Visitors to the stand also got the opportunity to purchase a copy of the new book and have Jeremy sign their copy as well as being entered into a prize draw to win either a RYA Day Skipper or RYA Competent Crew practical course courtesy of Sunsail.

The bubbly was out again later in the afternoon when Sara Hopkinson, who runs her own shorebased school in Pin Hill, Surrey popped along the RYA stand (EO37) to tell visitors all about her new book RYA Day Skipper Handbook – Sail.

All worth it when you see it on the shelf

Much to the enjoyment of the crowd Sara explained how writing a book can be much like child birth:  “it’s a struggle at times and can be exhausting but when you finally finish and see the book on the shelf it’s all worth it and you forget all the pain!”

Again visitors had the opportunity to chat with Sara and get their copy of the book signed by the author herself and anyone who purchased a copy of the book was entered in to a prize draw to win an RYA Day Skipper Sail practical course, this time courtesy of Hamble School of Yachting.

It was then time to reveal the new RYA Publications twitter feed ‘@RYAPublications’.  Here people can follow all the latest news and information about RYA Publications and where you can follow the chat about both new titles at either #yachtsailing or #dayskipper.

“Both of these titles have been really well received.  They are both crammed full of really useful information in easy to digest sections and the images and diagrams really make the texts come to life.  We are sure that anyone who buys a copy of either book will be really pleased when they read them”, commented Steen Ingerslev, RYA Publications Manager.

Great prizes

And remember it’s still not too late to be entered into to either of the prize draws.  Whether you’ve pre-ordered or purchased a copy or plan on buying either title at the boat show or from the RYA online shop then you could be in with a chance of winning.

A copy of RYA Day Skipper Handbook – Sail could win you a free five day (Sunday-Friday) RYA Day Skipper Practical Course, courtesy of Hamble School of Yachting (closing date 31 October 2012) and if you buy a copy of the new RYA Yacht Sailing Techniques book and you could find yourself choosing from either a free RYA Competent Crew course, or a free RYA Day Skipper Practical course courtesy of Sunsail (closing date 30 September 2012).
