Weymouth Welcomes SuperStock Stars
P1 SuperStock finals head to Weymouth this weekend
Olympic sailing venue Weymouth will host the first ever visit of the P1 SuperStock UK Championship to the Dorset coastal resort for the national powerboat series finale on Saturday/Sunday, 15/16th September.
Weymouth replaces Southampton in the P1 SuperStock UK calendar. With prestigious national titles up for grabs in the UK’s most professional powerboat racing championship, the Weymouth weekend is set to deliver first class free-to-watch action in Weymouth Bay.
Spectators will be able to get close to the drivers, navigators and boats, thanks to a race pits location along North Pier on a specially constructed pontoon.
P1 SuperStock UK’s visit to Weymouth is the first in the championship’s history and London-based championship promoter Powerboat P1 is also bringing its thrilling P1 AquaX Championship for personal watercraft.
“Our finale is the most eagerly anticipated race weekend of the year by our drivers , riders and teams alike and the esplanade in Weymouth is going to witness some exciting, close fought race action from both the powerboats and jet skis”, commented Powerboat P1 organiser Paolo Callea. “SuperStock will end its season with an unprecedented four-race title decider in Weymouth, so we are anticipating a thrilling climax.”
The race meeting is being organised by Powerboat P1 in conjunction with UKOBA (United Kingdom Off-Shore Boating Association) and governing body the RYA. UKOBA has successfully organised powerboat racing in Weymouth for the past three years and invited Powerboat P1 to bring its prestigious national championships to the Dorset town.
“Weymouth is a first class venue for powerboat racing and Powerboat P1’s championships are the best in the country, so there was a great opportunity to work together to create a fantastic weekend of motorsport”, commented UKOBA Commodore Tony Fiddy.
“There is strong support for our sport in Weymouth and, coming on top of the Olympic sailing, brings yet another high level watersports event to the area.”
Teams will arrive in Weymouth on Friday, 14th September with qualifying and racing on Saturday followed by the final rounds of the championships on Sunday.
