Written by RYA  | 06 September 2012 Paralympic Sailing Race Day 6 - Preview

Well we know we have medals, today is about determining how many and what colour.

This is how it stands……

*Races can be started up to 3pm today.

2.4mR
State of play: Helena Lucas guaranteed silver, going for gold. She holds a nine-point lead over Heiko Kroger (GER).
Scheduled Start Time: 11.10am

SKUD
State of play: Alexandra Rickham and Niki Birrell guaranteed bronze, going for silver. They are two points behind the USA who currently lie in second.
Scheduled Start Time: 11.00am

SONAR
State of play:
The Sonar team are well in the hunt for a medal. They can still win silver or bronze with just eight points currently covering the boats in second to seventh place. ParalympicsGB have issued a statement regarding the Sonar class.
Scheduled Start Time: 11.00am

Whereas yesterday the breeze in Portland Harbour was a stable 12-15 knots, today we are expecting lighter SE winds up to 6-12 knots. An early postponement flag is up but the sea breeze is expected to kick in about 1pm.

These medals will be the first Britain has won since sailing became part of the full Paralympic programme at Sydney 2000 and come in addition to the gold medal won by the British Sonar team of Andy Cassell, Kevin Curtis and Tony Downs when the first Paralympic sailing event took place as a demonstration event at Atlanta 1996.

All the racing for this event takes place in Portland Harbour.
