At the PSP Southampton Boat Show, which starts this Friday (14 September), the RYA has a whole host of events and activities taking place throughout the week including, book launches and boat handling workshops, the unveiling of competition winners and your chance to enter some fantastic free prize draws.  

Team GB sailors

To kick the show, on preview day (Friday 14), Team GB Olympic and Paralympic sailors will officially be opening the show before spending some time on the RYA stand signing autographs.  Why not come along and meet them?  You'll also find a whole host of information and offers on the stand; you can even have your photo taken on top of our Olympic podium!  

New books, great prizes

On Saturday 15 we will officially be unveiling two great new publications; RYA Yacht Sailing Techniques (12.00) and RYA Day Skipper Handbook - Sail (14.30). Join us on the RYA stand (EO37) for a glass of bubbly and hear from the authors themselves as they talk us through these great new books.  

There are also some fantastic prizes up for grabs in our free prize draws if you buy a copy of any of the new RYA titles including a five day RYA Day Skipper Practical Course, courtesy of Hamble School of Yachting or choose from either a free RYA Competent Crew course, or a free RYA Day Skipper Practical course courtesy of Sunsail.

Blast off

Blasting into action on Sunday is the final of the Honda RYA Youth RIB Championship 2012. 

Youngsters from across the country will be taking to the water in a bid to be crowned champion as they race against the clock for the for the coveted championship title. 

Watch all the action out in the marina and come and see the champions crowned at the winner's ceremony on the Sea Theatre Live Stage (17.20).  

New for 2012

Looking to refresh your boating skills and pick up some top tips from expert instructors, then why not sign up for the RYA's new, free, on the water and shore based workshops, the RYA 'Active Marina Experience', in partnership with WHICH MARINA?  

From man overboard drills and berthing manoeuvres to engine maintenance and radar operation, workshops will run each day and will provide some real hands-on experience.  

Places are very limited so it is highly recommended you book your session either in advance for the shore-based workshops or on the day for on-the-water sessions.  

To book an on-water workshop visit the 'Try-a-Boat' booking point on stand A140, when you arrive at the show (On-water workshops cannot be booked in advance).

Who will be the winner?

We'll also be unveiling the winner of the RYA ilovesailing Facebook photo and video competition on Saturday 22 September (12.00 RYA stand EO37).

The eight monthly winners will showcase their photos and videos before our panel of judges make the difficult decision of overall winner. Why not come along and cheer along your favourite and check out the photos and videos for yourself.
