Seen @ Shopbop: Giles & Brother Jewelry

IMG_0015.550

Things have been pretty crazy in the Shopbop studio as we gear up for fall arrivals. With all the running around, the sounds of stacked bracelets clatter in our very own stylish symphony. Karina wore a pair of mixed metal Giles & Brother bracelets to pump up her nautical-inspired, striped dress. The pop of bright leather and multi-chain links finish her look with signature Giles & Brother preppy-punk style.

Introducing Sara Designs Watches

Blog_12-07-23_sarawatches

An international background and years of global travels influence the classic, yet bold timepieces created by Sara Designs.  Crafted in luxe leathers, glittering crystals, and quality movement, Sara Designs watches carefully walk the line between oversized and refined. Worn alone, a Sara Designs timepiece cuts an elegant line on the wrist, enhancing any classic look. But these watches play equally well with an armful of bangles, anchoring a stack of mixed metals for a look that’s equal parts polished and punk.

With the endless stream of amazing products that flow through the halls of Shopbop, when a single bag ends up on the arms of four, five, and six different women, there is reason to take notice. Enter the Madewell Transport Tote. Simple, yet chic, this tote works in almost every situation. It feels comfortable on the shoulder, and after a few uses has that perfect, aged leather slouch. I have the brown and am already eyeing up the black. Trust me when I say, you need this bag.

Where My Shoes Have Been: Austin, Texas

Traveling is a common passion here at Shopbop, so you can imagine that a lot of our water cooler conversations deal with traveling’s most important issue: what to bring. This month, merchandiser Monica shed some light on the best shoes to take to the live music capitol of the world, Austin, Texas.

Packing is usually a three step process for me. A week in advance I make a preliminary list, then a few days before I leave, take it all out of my closet and make two piles: necessities and if-there-is-room. Finally, the night before, I stay up late doing the last edit. Turns out that all my planning was in vain, my Sam Edelman booties were the only pair of shoes I wore on my trip to Austin! They went with everything from cutoffs to maxis, and worked with my looks from day to night. I wore them nonstop: vintage shopping on South Congress, at the Rodrigo y Gabriela concert at Stubbs, the winery at Salt Lick, and even to Barton Springs pool!

Where My Shoes Have Been: Australia

Use this one550

Shopbop buyer Jenny travels to the ends of the earth looking for the best new products and brands to show in What’s New. Last month, she flew down to Sydney for Australian Fashion Week and took her favorite Yosi Samra flats with her.

My name is Jenny and I am a Yosi Samra ballet flats addict. But you can’t blame me. Running around global fashion weeks can be exhausting—especially in heels! So, I always stash a pair of ballet flats in my bag and this bright blue pair was the perfect travelling companion for my recent trip to Australian Fashion Week. Not only did these ballet flats make airport security a breeze, they also made several fashionable appearances with me all over town: front row at the tents, shopping in Paddington, and even a quick stop at Bondi Beach (I actually still feel some sand lingering down in the toes!).

1 Piece, 2 Ways: Torn by Ronny Kobo Dress

The unofficial start of summer is so close you can almost taste the happy hour drinks. But before you head out to celebrate the long weekend, check out how two Shopbop stylists injected their personal aesthetic into an incredibly versatile Torn by Ronny Kobo mini dress.

Haley: I love how the clean silhouette makes this vibrant dress super wearable. I paired it with sneakers and a chambray shirt to keep it casual, but with a few simple changes, like layering fun jewelry and adding heels, it’s easy to take the look from day to night.

On Haley:
*Torn by Ronny Kobo Dress
*Maison Scotch Hat
*Current/Elliott Chambray Shirt
*Elizabeth and James Sunglasses
*Superga Sneakers

Pa: The color of this dress is amazing. The bold coral is perfect for to kick off summer and  I can’t wait to wear it to a breezy al fresco lunch date. I took a bit of an eclectic route in my styling, but the dress is so comfortable, simple, and easy to wear, you could definitely dress it up.

On Pa:
*Torn by Ronny Kobo Dress
*Antik Batik Jacket
*Stella McCartney Sunglasses
*Alexander Wang Clutch

Where My Shoes Have Been: South Africa

The staff here at Shopbop is a worldly bunch. Vacationing to all ends of the globe and taking their enviable style with them. Stylist Amanda recently went on the trip of a lifetime. Check out the adventure she had in her Rag & Bone Newbury booties.

I had wanted to buy these boots forever, and my trip to South Africa was the perfect excuse to pull the trigger. My suitcase was a packed as my travel schedule, but I knew that because of their transitional fabric and comfortable height, they were worth the space. Turns out it was one of my smartest packing decisions ever.  These boots accompanied me everywhere: trotting throughout the vineyards of South Africa, hiking to the top of the southernmost tip of Africa, and at safari base camp. For shark diving, I stuck to the wetsuit, but sure enough, my booties carried me all the way to the boat!

For Mom: Mother’s Day Gifts Ideas

It’s probably a crime that Mother’s Day only happens once a year. She read you stories, watched your ballet recitals, took you prom dress shopping, and shaped you into the confident woman you are today. For that, your mom deserves the world. Thank her with a gift that shows how much she means to you. Treat her to a pair of Alexander McQueen sunglasses or eye-catching Alexis Bittar earrings. Or surprise her with a draped leather Helmut Lang jacket or a classic Foley + Corinna tote. She might claim that a card or a phone call is enough, but presenting her with an unbelievably soft Thakoon clutch would certainly more accurately show just how happy you are that she is in your life.

(Shameless shout out: Happy Mother’s Day to my wonderful mother Alyson!)

Wear, Worship, Will: Bright Clutches

Blog_04-02-2012_clutches

This week our new favorite fashion game tackles the It-bags of spring: bright clutches. We turned to PR coordinator Olivia to find out which clutch she’d wear, which she’d worship, and which she’d  will to a stylish friend, (or hopeful coworker—hint, hint).

WEAR: Clare Vivier
“You really can't go wrong with a simple fold-over. It's versatile, smart, and the bright color makes it extra fun.”

WORSHIP: Anya Hindmarch
“Who doesn't love a little sparkle? This eye-catcher is meant to be admired—maybe I can incorporate it into the décor of my apartment!”

WILL: Rebecca Minkoff
“The embossed ostrich on this clutch is amazing. Stylish and practical, I could see so many of my girlfriends pairing it with their outfits to add a little pop of color.”

It’s your turn. Which would you wear, worship, and will? Tell us in the comments.

Fall 2012 Runway Inspiration: Western Wear

The lights have long since dimmed on the runways of Fashion Month, but around the halls of Shopbop, we’re still buzzing about our favorite trends for fall 2012. Unable to wait until the leaves start to turn, stylist Loni shares her excitement over western wear, and her tips on how to wear it now:

“The most standout western wear show for fall 2012 was, hands down, Isabel Marant. Some of the shirts look like full on vintage finds from a Texas thrift store. Band of Outsiders was also one of my faves. I’m crazy about the whole prairie vibe and luckily, we have so many items on our site that can help a gal wear this fall runway look right now. Pointy-toed and distressed leather boots are the epitome of western-inspired footwear. Pair them with a floral cotton maxi dress and a low-slung belt for look that’s fresh and forward.”

Stylist Tips: How to Wear the Surf Trend

This spring, the fashion world is obsessed with the surf trend. Seen all over the S/S 2012 runways, the beachy ease and sun-soaked feel projects a covetable carefree attitude. But, neoprene and swim tops require a well-trained fashion eye. That’s where Shopbop Stylist Karina comes in. She was happy to explain how easy it is to let your inner surfer shine.

LIBBY: Thankfully, the surf look doesn’t exactly mean pairing a wetsuit with pumps. How would someone go about interpreting this trend?
KARINA: Have fun, but don’t overdo it. Little touches of scuba wear in your wardrobe go a long way. For a chic alternative to your usual wool pencil skirt, try a floral neoprene Elizabeth and James skirt. If you’re up for a more daring look, replace a traditional bra with a Lisa Marie Fernandez bikini top and throw a fun mesh top over it.

LIBBY: What accessories work best with this look?
KARINA: I love the thought of tarnished and weathered jewelry pairings. Look to Pamela Love for great pieces to incorporate with this trend. Her tribal spike necklaces and her new totem rings and earrings are particularly nice.

LIBBY: How would you, personally, wear the scuba trend?
KARINA: I would pair a Lisa Marie Fernandez one-piece with a sleek VPL skirt. And then I’d finish it off with a wrist full of Chan Luu wrap bracelets and sporty Alexander Wang heels.

What is the most unique thing in your purse? A wine corkscrew—for wine and cheese Fridays of course!

I Resolve to... 2012 Fashion Resolution Update

Resolution_Blog (2)crop
With this strangely warm winter, it’s hard to believe it was just a few short weeks ago when I asked three Shopbop stylists about their fashion resolutions for the New Year. With March approaching, I checked back in with them to see how they have been keeping up their 2012 fashion goals.

Haley: My resolution was to incorporate more bold jewelry into my everyday look. While I faltered a bit and mostly relied on my usual minimalistic approach to accessorizing, I have added some eye-catching statement necklaces. They are such an easy way to punch up an ordinary outfit. I just throw one on with a tee and instantly feel more pulled together.

Amanda: I resolved to work more leather pieces into my rotation and it’s been going well—maybe too well. I’ve been shopping way too much lately! I just got an uber-versatile leather Acne skirt in the most perfect shade of tan and a lightweight Zero + Maria Cornejo jacket in a brilliant blue. Throw in a new pair of leather Helmut Lang pants and you can say I’m definitely following my resolution to a T.

Rachel: My resolution was to get more wear-forever pieces into my wardrobe and I have mostly been sticking to it. Our studio is overflowing with amazing styles and I’m tempted to buy something new every day. But by only purchasing time-tested, tailored silhouettes, I have not only accomplished my goal but have been building up quite the closet of classics.

New for Spring 2012: BLK DNM

The latest from designer Johan Lindeberg (his resume includes stints at Diesel and William Rast), BLK DNM was one of the most highly anticipated launches of the spring season. Rooted in denim and careful tailoring, BLK DNM clothing feels like an extra-effortless, extra-cool version of NYC street style: the relaxed silhouettes and muted shades would simultaneously reinvigorate and blend seamlessly with any closet south of 14th Street.

For spring, Lindeberg built his own ultimate closet of high-waisted jeans, button-downs, and slouchy tees, but don’t expect the collection to languish there until fall. The label will function outside of the rigid seasons of the fashion cycle, releasing new pieces throughout the year.

1 Piece 2 Ways: Bold Wide-Leg Pants

Red pants are a bold statement. Combine the bright hue with a wide-leg silhouette, and you’ve got a highly covetable item that can be pretty tough to wear. Enter Shopbop stylists Loni and Karina. One look at their tips on this tricky trend and you’ll be ready to work a wide-leg in blue, green, and especially red.

Loni:
The easiest way to wear a piece like this is to go fitted and minimal on top. Instead, I paired these pants with an equally bold and blousy top. I love the added sense of presence I get by matching volume with volume. High, high heels, black accessories, and edgy jewelry anchor this bright look to my style.

On Loni:
* Alice + Olivia Eric Pants
* ONE by Otis & Maclain Top
* Giuseppe Zanotti Wedge Sandals

Karina:
I’m a sucker for classics, so both the color and the shape of these pants are a happy departure from my usual style. I added my favorite layering essential, a printed tee, and threw on a blazer to sharpen the voluminous silhouette. To top it off, I stacked on some chunky bracelets and a few silver rings.

On Karina:
* Alice + Olivia Eric Pants
* IRO Blazer
* Wildfox Tee

Fabric Files: Velvet

The Single Breasted Velvet Jacket by Halston Heritage and the Improta Velvet Dress by Calvin Klein Collection.

Winter is a time for creature comforts: hearty foods, warm fires, and rich textures. In company with cashmere, corduroy, and fur, velvet has lately begun to assert itself as one of the season’s must-have indulgences. Here are a few of my favorite ways to wear it:

Shoes
As textured as suede and as refined as patent, velvet makes an intriguing material for footwear. Look to Opening Ceremony and Thakoon shoes for inviting options.

Pants
For bottoms, velvet is the citified version of corduroy. AG Adriano Goldschmied and J Brand skinnies become gala-worthy in plush velvet.

Statement Pieces
For maximum impact, opt for maximum yardage: a long dress, maxi skirt, or bright blazer will give you plenty of texture with which to make an impression.

Shopbop at FNO: Talking with Our Host, Stylist Louise Roe

The third year of fashion’s biggest shopping night is a mere two days away. We’ll be broadcasting live from the streets of NYC starting at 8 p.m. Eastern (details here), with stylist Louise Roe kindly playing host for the evening. We caught up with her before the big event to pick her brain on the phenomenon that is FNO.

Shopbop: Tell us a little about how you got your start in fashion, and what you’re working on now.
Louise Roe: I started out in magazines, as an intern at Elle UK. I had always wanted to write and I loved journalism. After working at a few publications, I ended up on the news (by mistake!) one morning, talking about wedding dresses. Next thing, I had some auditions for different shows and then made the leap to host TV full time. Right now I’ve just wrapped the second season of Plain Jane, the makeover show on CW. I present and am hosting an MTV special called At the Movies, going backstage at the VMAs. I can’t wait.

SB: Let’s talk Fashion’s Night Out. The Shopbop Lounge will be hopping all night with special guests and visitors. Who are you most looking forward to meeting/speaking with the night of the event?
LR: I am a huge fan of Rachel Roy and Pamela Love. Their designs are just a genius combination of edgy, sexy, and chic.

SB: What other events are on your radar for FNO, aside from the Shopbop Lounge?
LR: Alexander Wang’s show and the Alice + Olivia event.

SB: Why do you think FNO is important to fashion?
LR: I remember when it first started. I was working at Vogue.com in London at the time. Suddenly anyone and everyone who adored fashion could have a piece of it: watch runway shows, get discounts, meet designers, hit the parties. It was like all the closed doors of a wonderful, but sometimes exclusive, industry suddenly opened.

SB: And finally, what’s on your list of must-haves for fall?
LR: Orange! Lots of orange. I’m obsessed. It’s so ’70s and bohemian. A cloche hat, an Issa kimono dress, a little cocktail dress from Alice + Olivia, and if I can afford them, a pair of Giuseppe Zanotti booties.

Follow us on Facebook and Twitter to get all the latest FNO and NYFW news.

Fashion's Night Out: Our Style & Fashion Directors' Picks

A week and half to go before fashion’s biggest shopping night, and plans for the Shopbop Lounge in Meatpacking are coming along (check out a list of special guests on the official Shopbop Fashion’s Night Out page). I caught up with Fashion Director Kate Ciepluch and Style Director Morgan Wendelborn to see what fall pieces they plan to snatch up for FNO.

STYLE DIRECTOR MORGAN WENDELBORN

1. Maria Grachvogel Egrit Long Dress
Amazingly chic and elegant, this will be a major NYFW statement.

2. Derek Lam Small Ume Cross Body Bag
This bag leaves me speechless every time I look at it. Just perfect!

3. Zero + Maria Cornejo Eka Coat
This take on the classic camel coat is so fresh, with sculptural elements and an asymmetrical collar.

4. Pamela Love Quartz Crystal Crescent Necklace
Pamela Love’s big statement pieces are my favorite!!

5. Giuseppe Zanotti Suede Platform Pumps
My favorite platform pump in must-have rust.

FASHION DIRECTOR KATE CIEPLUCH

1. Acne Nico Milano Maxi Skirt
Acne’s column maxi skirt in heather grey is so unusual. A foundation for your look that provides a nonchalant, chic mood.

2. Diane von Furstenberg Clean Weston Jacket
Spotted fabrics are so right this season, yet also so timeless. This DVF jacket reminds me of Edie Sedgwick’s iconic style. One of the coolest runway looks of the season.

3. Alexander Wang Fabiana High Heel Sandals
Alexander Wang’s barely there sandal has arrived! The mirrored blush is such a unique styling technique for the fall season.

4. Alexander Wang Aviator Tailcoat
Fusing function and fashion, I love how technical this jacket is—such a fierce urban look.

Check out more picks in our Fashion’s Night Out Boutique.
