Paralympics Race Day 3 - Preview

Written by RYA  | 03 September 2012 Race day 3 preview

We’re praying for the wind gods today as while everyone enjoys a bit of late summer sunshine, the forecast does nothing to help the sailors in Portland Harbour.

An early postponement flag was raised this morning but there is optimism that we will get racing today albeit in pretty light, changeable conditions of SW 4-6kts.

To give the race officers the best chance of getting the scheduled two races per class completed, the schedule has been amended so all classes can race this morning with their second race to take place as soon as possible afterwards. No race can start later than 6pm in accordance with the published sailing instructions.

The maximum time limits for each race are:

  • 2.4mR – 75 minutes (target time 50 minutes)
  • SKUD – 90 minutes (target time 60 minutes)
  • Sonar – 100 minutes (target time 65 minutes)

After the first race of today – race five overall – the sailors can discard their worst score of the regatta, which is guaranteed to shake up the leaderboard.

All the racing for this event takes place in Portland Harbour. Two races per day are scheduled for each class from 1 to 5 September, with one race for each class on the final day (6 September). Racing is scheduled to start at 11am daily.
