Written by RYA | 26 July 2012
What 470 Men's pair Luke Patience and Stuart Bithell had to say at the media conference at the Olympic venue on Thursday in Weymouth
This is what the boys had to say......
LUKE PATIENCE
On London being selected to host the Olympics:
"Everything changed right there. From that moment on our lives were not the same."
On being keen to start racing:
"Mad for it. Can't wait."
On how sailing differs from other sports:
"We are using Mother Nature to do what we do. The thing that powers our boat is invisible. Just think about that for a minute."
On whether they are fully prepared:
"There is no such thing as perfection and that is good to know because it means there is no reason to sit around twiddling your thumbs. There is always something more to do."
On his friendship with crewmate Stuart:
"It's a blast. It's a fun ride that's for sure. We have been friends for a long time now and we will still be friends after the Olympics."
On how they deal with the extra security and attention at the Olympics:"
A big set of headphones usually does the trick."
On a suggestion that Australians Mathew Belcher and Malcolm PAGE were certainties for gold at London 2012:"
Can someone tell the future? I thought that was just in fairy tales. They have had a great season, but that means it's theirs to lose."
On their own chances of winning gold:
"It's there to be won. We know that on our day we can be the best in the world."
STUART BITHELL
On his favourite Portland pub, The Cove, being taken over by the Australian team:
"I don't know who gave it Australian status. It's our local."
On their chances against Belcher and Page:
"We will be giving them a good run for their money."
On their approach to the competition:
"We are very much in our own little bubble as a crew."
On attending the London 2012 opening ceremony:
"We are very excited to be there. It should be a hoot."
On the difference between them and more experienced British sailing team members:
"We have lots of youth and enthusiasm and they're all getting a bit old now. We are excitable characters and we laugh and joke about a lot. They remind us that it's work, it's work, it's work. They keep us grounded."
On how they expect to perform at London 2012:
"We are on track to put on our best-ever performance at the Olympic Games."
