Shropshire Sailors Push The Boat Out 

Shropshire and Chelmarsh SCs get behind the British sailing team for London 2012

Sailors across Shropshire ‘Pushed the Boat Out’ in a nationwide show of support for Britain’s Olympic team sailors on Saturday (21 July).

At Shropshire Sailing Club, near Ellesmere, around 40 members pushed the boat out with boats decorated with red, white and blue and the clubhouse draped in TeamGB colours.

In keeping with the Great British theme cream teas were served in afternoon. The club also had themed youth training on Sunday to help celebrate push the boat out and inspire Shropshire SCs talented next generation of young sailors.

Meanwhile at Chelmarsh SC, near Bridgnorth, some 30 first timers took to the water for their first taste of sailing at the club’s had Sail for Gold Taster Day. The club were delighted to see a number of the newcomers signing up for a full learn to sail course later this summer while a few more signed up as new club members.

National ‘Push the Boat Out Day’ was the focal point of the RYA’s nationwide London 2012, Sail for Gold, initiative celebrating Britain's unmatched Olympic sailing heritage and inspiring more people to get out on the water more regularly.

Hundreds of sailing clubs and centres all over the country took part in national ‘Push the Boat Out Day’ in an emphatic show of support for the British sailing team as they prepare to stake their claim as the World’s top sailing nation for the fourth Games in a row.

The Olympic Sailing Regatta gets underway at Weymouth and Portland on Sunday 29 July. Follow the British sailing team’s fortunes at www.rya.org.uk/london2012
