Experience AquaX in Cowes this weekend

To celebrate the return of the P1 AquaX Championship to Cowes this weekend, series sponsor Sea-Doo is inviting the Solent jet skiers to come and try its stunning range of personal watercraft.

Sea-Doo will be based in the AquaX paddock in the Cowes Yacht Haven and local jet ski enthusiasts are welcome to come along to its display and sign-up to ride one of its demo fleet craft under the watchful eyes of an RYA instructor Steve Poulton.

“Having the Sea-Doo display and exciting demo fleet adds a dynamic element to our presence at the Powerboat Racing Festival and gives local riders the chance to try Sea-Doo skis exactly like the ones racing in the Sea-Doo Challenge”, said championship manager Lisa Barsby. “We are also running a training session on Friday for anyone who wants to join the series and race at the remaining rounds, all of which take place along the south coast.”

Launched at the start of this season, the new Sea-Doo Challenge has added an exciting dimension to the burgeoning AquaX Championship. It attracted multiple car-racing champion Paul Rivett to add jet-ski racing to his 2012 season. He took his maiden victory in the Sea-Doo Challenge at the second round in Hull and backed that up with a win in Eastbourne last month.

However, current Championship leader Steve Robinson will not give up easily and with the best four results counting towards the championship, it’s still anyone’s game. “The biggest factor in determining sea conditions is the direction and strength of the wind and we all know how unpredictable the Solent can be, so experience is the key”, said Robinson.

Sea-Doo Challenge standings after 4 races are:

1. S. Robinson 58 points;

2. P. Rivett 49;

3. R. Sired 48;

4. L. Kwiatkowski 46;

5. A. Wilson 32;

6. R. Higgs 17;

7. W. Curtis 16.

Round four of the P1 Aqua X Championship, the Cowes Grand Prix of the Sea, features qualifying and two back-to-back races on Saturday 25th August. Racing starts at 11.30 with qualifying followed by race 1 at 13.45 and race 2 at 16.00.

And that’s not all as AquaX Freestyler Jack Moule will be thrilling the crowds with his stunning tricks and flips adjacent to the Yacht Haven from 12.30.
