Leader

Leader Yacht‘Leader’ is The Trinity Sailing Foundation flagship. As a Designated Vessel on the National Register of Historic Ships she is recognised as being of major national and prime regional significance in terms of maritime heritage.

Built for William Robbens in 1892 in the shipyard of W A Gibbs at Galmpton Creek on the River Dart she is 105 feet in length overall, displaces 110 tonnes and carries 3,150 square feet of sail on her gaff ketch rig and is the oldest surviving sailing trawler, one of the largest of her type.

Over the last six months Nov 2011 to May 2012 she has had over £250,000 invested in her, including a large contribution from the Heritage Lottery fund in replacing the deck and deck structure. New Deck Beams, Beam shelves, Stations, Covering Boards, bulwark and the Deck itself has been replace. The Trinity Sailing Foundation have also taken this opportunity to restore the original sheer line that had become distorted over the years.

She is owned and operated by Trinity Sailing and undertakes a mixture of sailing holidays and adventure sailing. From her home port of Brixham she is ideally placed to cruise the South Coasts of Devon and Cornwall as well as Brittany and the Channel Islands.
