Gold Challenge

A great opportunity for clubs and training centres.

What is the Gold Challenge?

Gold Challenge is a unique charity challenge where participants choose to try 5, 10, 20 or 30 different Olympic or Paralympic Sports – whilst raising money for charity.

It's a great chance for everyone to feel the excitement of London 2012 and is a once in a life time opportunity to be part of the action.

Gold Challenge has three objectives:

  • to raise in excess of £20 million pounds for its charity partners
  • to inspire hundreds of thousands of people to try and participate in sports
  • to give its participants an amazing Olympic-related experience

How is the RYA involved in the Gold Challenge?

The Gold Challenge is working with the National Governing Bodies like the RYA for sports across England, Scotland and Northern Ireland to ensure that the challenge works for each sport.

The RYA believes that the Gold Challenge is a great opportunity for clubs/training centres to capitalise on the excitement generated by the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

We are connecting clubs/training centres with the Gold Challenge, and working with you to devise how best ‘sailing Gold Challenge sessions’ - including windsurfing, dinghy sailing and yachting - can be delivered to participants.

What are the benefits of joining the Gold Challenge for my club/training centre?

Concrete benefits for clubs/training centres:

  • Presents you with participants who are engaged in trying new sports
  • Creates opportunity to convert participants into new members/returning customers
  • Provides a new revenue stream with no additional marketing costs. The Gold Challenge is launching a massive nationwide marketing campaign in Spring 2011.

Clubs/training centres still charge for the activity. Participants know they must pay for sessions where a fee would normally apply.

How can my club/training centre get involved in the Gold Challenge?

Sign up here as a Gold Challenge provider. Once a participant has selected their sport, they can learn about it through each sport’s specific pages on the Gold Challenge website.

Participants challenge themselves to do 30, 20, 10 or 5 sports. This can be done as an individual or as part of a team of 2-30 participants.

The website then directs participants to where they can find local activity i.e. those clubs/training centres which have signed up.

The participant prints off thier certificate and attends the sessions with the criterion for completing the sport ready to be signed off by the training centre or club once they are complete.  They can earn bonus points based on progression as they develop their sailing skills and can earn up to 30 points.
