Papercourt Sailing Club is bidding to buy the Lake from its owner CEMEX UK Ltd  which it has leased for the past 51 years. The Club is now seeking financial support from members and the public if it is to stand a chance of being able to make a competitive offer by the 27 June deadline and so secure the future of sailing on the Lake.
More than 100 members packed the clubhouse for the Emergency General Meeting last Wednesday and voted unanimously to submit a formal bid to CEMEX to buy the freehold of Papercourt Lake.
Papercourt Sailing Club wants to ensure sailing continues at the Lake, is supportive of anglers continuing to use the water and wants to maintain access for the public to walk the surrounding pathways.
Papercourt Sailing Club, which celebrated its 50th anniversary last year, is run voluntarily by members for members and has a national reputation for encouraging young sailors in the sport.  It also offers training to adults and supports Sailability, which provides sailing opportunities for people with disabilities.

Papercourt Sailing Club urges those supportive of the Club’s bid to write to:
Mr, Jesus Gonzalez,
President,
CEMEX UK Ltd,
Cemex House,
Coldharbour Lane,
Thorpe,
Egham,
Surrey TW20 8TD

Papercourt Sailing Club's decision to bid featured on the front page of the Surrey Advertiser on 22 June and the Commodore was interviewed on the subject on Eagle Radio.

Welcome

An RYA Champion Club, Papercourt Sailing Club was established in 1961 when sailors reached an agreement with the local gravel extraction company to sail on its water.  With many alterations to the geography of the lake in the early years, our lake currently stands at around 44 acres of water on 50 acres of land.  Papercourt is situated close to Junction 10 of the M25 and just outside Ripley village.

Papercourt offers an extremely friendly, inclusive, family atmosphere with no paid staff; a club run for and by the members with the aim of providing a safe and fun environment in which to develop our sailing skills.  You can join the club as a non sailing individual or family, without owning a boat, learn to sail at very reasonable cost, make loads of friends and then after some training you can get friendly advice about which boat to buy.  Many members have done just that, and then become part of the team training the next generation!
