Worcestershire-raised Ali shot to prominence as a Youth, winning 2005 ISAF Youth Worlds bronze in the Laser Radial. After graduating from Southampton University with a First Class Honours degree in Civil Engineering, Ali’s promise on the senior stage shone through at the 2010 Miami World Cup regatta where she won bronze – her first senior podium finish.

A regular World Cup series top 10 performer, the latter half of 2011 saw Ali produce the most consistent set of results of her career to date, culminating in a career-best seventh at the 2011 ISAF Worlds in Perth. This was the first time she had ever finished in the top 10 at a World Championships. Ali’s nod for London 2012 came after a strong showing at the 2012 French World Cup regatta in Hyeres, where she narrowly missed out on the medals by one point after a week pushing the podium spots. She marked her selection by winning her first World Cup event - Skandia Sail for Gold - in June.
