RYA Portsmouth Yard Stick

RYA Portsmouth Yardstick dates for the diary

Don’t forget your returns

As the country settles back into the routine rhythm of life with the joy of the summers events slowly starting to fade away, the RYA Technical Department would like to remind all clubs using the Portsmouth Yardstick Scheme that it’s time to start thinking about collating your race data for return to the RYA.

The key dates for your diary are:

  • 1st September – Electronic returns form
The electronic returns form will be available to download from our RYA Portsmouth Yardstick page or can be requested by emailing the RYA Technical Department at pyreturn@rya.org.uk (Paper returns will also be sent out on this date upon request)
  • 1st December – Data Deadline
All paper and electronic returns must be received by the RYA Technical Department no later than 1st December.

If your club uses the RYA Portsmouth Yardstick website then the data will be automatically collated for you and used for consideration of the 2013 Portsmouth Yardstick Numbers.

“Whilst 2012 has been special in a number of ways, unfortunately we do have to report that the Portsmouth Yardstick scheme for Cruisers is in a dire state due to a lack of data.

“Whilst the scheme thrives for the dinghies and keelboats, over recent years the RYA has seen a steady decline in the number of clubs and the amount of data being returned to the RYA for Cruisers. As the Portsmouth Yardstick Scheme is built entirely on data received by the clubs, if the data doesn’t come in then there is less and less on which the RYA are able to base their number lists, consequently the decision is likely to be forced on whether the Portsmouth Yardstick scheme for cruisers continues beyond this year”, explained RYA Technical Manager Bas Edmonds.

If you are a club which races cruisers under the Portsmouth Yardstick scheme then please get in touch with the RYA Technical Department to see what we can do to get your information into the RYA and help revive this valuable service for the sport.
