Papercourt Sails for Gold

Papercourt Sailing Club in Ripley, Surrey, encouraged even more people to get out on the water this summer by holding a Sail for Gold ‘Have a Go’ day on 12 May 2012.

There were a host of activities on offer for people to try, including taster sailing sessions with qualified instructors, tours of the facilities, and refreshments in the newly extended clubhouse.

Papercourt’s ‘Have a Go’ session was part of a nationwide RYA initiative to bring the excitement of the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games as close to home as possible for everyone.

Club Training Principal Sylvia Hayden said: “It was just one of those fabulous days with sunshine and tremendous support from our members, and the whole atmosphere was so happy. We had a lot of new membership interest from some 320 visitors.”

Event co-ordinator Fraser Hayden added: “We were delighted to welcome people of all ages and abilities. It would be fantastic if through London 2012 and Sail for Gold we can inspire a whole new generation of people around Ripley to get out onto the water and discover a new favourite pastime.

We are an RYA approved sailing club, offering high quality training to members for beginners up to race level, as well as powerboat and first aid courses. There is sailing all year round, with a large youth section and an active social programme.”
