Humber Mouth Yacht Club get OnBoard Feva 

Humber Mouth join RYA OnBoard

Liz Wrigglesworth, RYA OnBoard Development Officer for the Yorkshire and Humber Region, paid a visit to Humber Mouth Yacht Club on Wednesday 13 June to officially present the club with their RYA OnBoard plaque, marking the Yacht Club’s entry into the top 10 places in the region for youngsters to learn to sail.  

The OnBoard scheme is the RYA’s grassroots programme which introduces sailing and windsurfing to young people aged 8 to 18, through schools, youth groups and training centres, working with some of the best sailing clubs in the country.  

“It is great to welcome Humber Mouth Yacht Club into the OnBoard programme,” said Liz Wrigglesworth at the presentation ceremony.

“This brings the number of OnBoard Centres in the Yorkshire and Humber Region to ten, with 112 volunteers and 70 instructors, and between them they work with 60 schools and have held over 1500 sailing sessions. A fabulous success for the region.”  

“We are very proud to be receiving this OnBoard plaque,” said Sue Culton, Humber Mouth YC OnBoard Co-ordinator.

“On behalf of all the OnBoard volunteers I would like to say a big thank you to the Humberston North Sea Lions for supporting our Cadet section over the years. This year the Lions assisted us with the purchase of a RS Feva dinghy and in previous years have funded a new Topper sail and assisted us with the purchase of a jetty for our training base at Cleethorpes Country Park.”  

Over a ten year period OnBoard aims to introduce a minimum of 500,000 children to sailing and windsurfing in the UK, converting over 10% of them into regular participants. So far it’s nicely on track.
