David Howlett has a glorious record in coaching sailors to Olympic success.
Howlett raced the Finn at Montreal 1976 Olympics, but, after missing out on selection for Los Angeles 1984, coached McIntyre and Vaile in 1988 in Seoul. He was back at the Star helm at Barcelona in 1992 with Phil Lawrence. Outside of the Olympics, Howlett raced, coached and won in J24s, Etchells, Melges 32’s, IRC, IOR, IMS, Admirals Cups, Commodores’ and Sardinia cups. He continues to coach Ben Ainslie in what will be their third Olympic cycle together.
