Frieda&nellie designers Sarah Reid and Stacy Herzog Berk.
Introducing frieda&nellie, the best thing to happen to friendship bracelets. Designers Stacy Herzog Berk and Sarah Reid found their spark of inspiration while traveling through Ecuador, where the brightly colored textiles reminded them of their days making friendship bracelets at summer camp. Add a vintage element inspired by their grandmothers’ jewelry boxes, and you’ve got a truly unique new jewelry collection.
Since this design duo are BFFs, we asked them to play interviewer and interviewee with each other. Below, they talk weddings, designing frieda&nellie, mottos, and more.
SARAH: What is your most extravagant, but happy, recent purchase?
STACY: My wedding dress by my dear friend Katie Ermilio. We used a vintage rhinestone pendant of my grandmother’s on the front of the dress. Katie is very detail-oriented, like me, and a wedding dress was the perfect excuse to finally own a Katie Ermilio design. She even had my and my husband’s first initial hand embroidered on the inside of the dress. Such a sweet and thoughtful surprise.
SARAH: What three places inspire you as a designer and why?
STACY:
South America: I love the beautiful metals, turquoise, colorful architecture, and the natural beauty of the flowers and landscapes all around you.
Manhattan: The people, the conversations, art galleries, museums, book stores… And I love that every day is different.
Bora Bora: Anywhere near the ocean calms me. I just honeymooned in Bora Bora, and the colors of the ocean, the flowers, the fish, the black pearls—they were so fantastic! I sketched a lot and came back filled with new ideas for frieda&nellie.
SARAH: What is your motto?
STACY: Can I have two? 1. “Keep on keepin’ on.” 2. “Let what you love be what you do,” originally said by Rumi.
SARAH: Finish the sentence: When all hell breaks loose ______.
STACY: Drink champagne and dance on tables.
