Job Description

Nottingham Trent University is committed to enabling students to participate in volunteering opportunities in the local community. The University is also committed to widening participation and ensuring that people from a diverse range of backgrounds are supported in making the transition to Higher Education.

The University is seeking to provide greater support to students wishing to volunteer in the local community by creating this new post of Sports Volunteering Officer. This new role will allow a focus on enhancing the employability of students gaining practical experience of volunteering in a sporting context. The role also concentrates efforts on working with schools and colleges in the most disadvantaged areas, placing students as effective role models to raise aspirations and attainment of pupils through specific projects and initiatives.

Working within the Sport & Lifestyle team you will co-ordinate the development and implementation of volunteering in sport schemes which engage university students to support learners from local schools and colleges, and with community organisations, through different types of volunteering project. This will involve recruitment and training of appropriate volunteers, liaison with external organisations to broker partnerships and acting as a main point of contact for participants undertaking volunteering schemes.

The successful candidate will have experience of working with students/young people and co-ordinating volunteers within a sporting context, as well as managing a busy workload. A good understanding of volunteering, especially volunteering in sport, and excellent communication and organisation skills are also an essential requirement for this role.

NTU is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and vulnerable adults. These roles involve working with children and vulnerable adults and the selection process for these posts will include an Enhanced Criminal Record Bureau check.

Special Conditions: 18.5 hours per week
