ILP graduate Andy Parkinson elected to key WADA role

UK Anti-Doping Chief Executive Andy Parkinson has been elected as Chair of CAHAMA (Ad hoc European Committee for the World Anti-Doping Agency) following formal elections for the position last month, and will begin his two-year term from November this year.
CAHAMA is a group of leading experts responsible for co-ordinating the positions of European States in respect of issues determined by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA). The move means that UK Anti-Doping will now be at the heart of the European Anti-Doping policy development while it reinforces the respect and influence that Parkinson has with the 47 nations that comprise the Council of Europe.
In 2011 Andy Parkinson graduated from UK Sport’s International Leadership Programme (ILP), which is designed to equip participants with the skills they need to operate successfully on the international stage and build relationships with international sporting organisations.
Commenting on the experience he gained from ILP, Andy Parkinson said: “The International Leadership Programme has proved invaluable to my professional development, not only because of the network of connections I made during this time, but also in further developing my awareness of the international landscape.
“My successful election campaign for Chair of CAHAMA was greatly aided by participating in the programme.”
UK Sport’s Director of Major Events and International Relations, Simon Morton, said: “The ILP is our flagship international people development programme for NGBs, and part of our commitment to ensure that the UK is able to support the international sporting community and its governance.
“As a member of the ILP alumni it is fantastic to see Andy appointed to this significant role, which he will take up following the London Olympic and Paralympic Games.
“We will continue our work in this area as we seek to ensure the UK is well represented across the international sporting system.”
CAHAMA is the only pan-European WADA Forum and its geographical scope fits exactly with the European Olympic region.
The organisation's processes allow every European country to have access to information related to the governance of WADA and to play a role in the decision-making processes of the WADA Foundation Board.
CAHAMA also ensures that the expectations of all European countries are represented by European members of the WADA Foundation Board.
The organisation provides candidates to the Foundation Board and the Executive Committee, but also to working committees of WADA.
