  • ICO Vacancies

    The ICO has a variety of roles, including lawyers, communicators, administrative staff, customer service staff, information systems and policy specialists.
    • Team Manager Operations

      £28,299 to £30,923 with progression possible to £38,287 + benefits + pension.
      Location in Wilmslow (near Manchester), Cheshire.


      This is a generic recruitment campaign; applications will be submitted for potential vacancies in First Contact, Complaints Resolution and Enforcement. Applications are invited from candidates who meet the criteria for a Team Manager and who are looking for a role in any one of these departments.

      A Team Manager is responsible for the delivery of one of a number of services the ICO offers to the public. These services all involve the provision of advice or the handling of complaints under the legislation regulated by the ICO. Team Managers are responsible for ensuring that work completed in their service area is to a consistently high standard and that productive performance targets are agreed and met. They will directly manage a team of staff ensuring that all are clear about the standards expected and managed to develop their personal potential.

    • Non Executive Audit Committee Member

      (3 year fixed term appointment, renewable once only)

      £500 per day, 5 days per year.


      As a member of the ICO’s Audit Committee, you will support the work of the ICO’s Management Board. You will be responsible for helping to ensure that the ICO has strong governance mechanisms in place, reviewing internal audit findings and making recommendations for improvement in practice.

    • Investigating Officers

      £22,330 + excellent benefits Wilmslow, Cheshire (close to Manchester) (job ref: IO612).

      The Information Commissioners Office is looking for Investigating Officers to join a talented Investigation Team involved in criminal investigations.

      You will cover a wide range of information security investigations from the illegal sale of personal data, corporate misuse of data resulting in a criminal prosecution to “blagging”.

      The ICO helps safeguard the nation’s information. And your role will be helping to look after the best interests of millions of people across the UK, as part of the Operations Directorate of a modern regulator with a strong focus on influencing and educating.

      This could involve anything from dealing with small yet important issues to seizing computers, sanctioning covert investigations, working with the police, international collaborations and following cases through to prosecution.

      Here every day is different. And if you believe in protecting information and data security in a high-tech age, this is the career challenge you’ve been looking for. An assured and experienced investigator you’ll take great pride in conducting investigations through the implementation of investigation strategies and investigation plans.

    • Senior Technology Officer

      If you have strong technical knowledge, skills and experience, this is a unique opportunity to continue to develop and enjoy plenty of variety in a technology role with a difference. You will lead in a broad range of technology-related activities which affect the information rights on UK citizens.

      Your role
      Join our team and you will help meet the growing demand for technology expertise in one of the newly created vacancies. You will work with colleagues from across the ICO and provide support to ensure that this work is underpinned with a sound technical basis.

      You will work with other technical specialists to monitor and evaluate current and emerging technologies to help assess their potential impact on information rights. With your ability to communicate with colleagues and members of the public you will be able to explain complex technical matters in a simple and appropriate manner. You will also use your technical knowledge to ask the right questions and note the important points of interest.

      Skills you’ll need
      In addition to your strong technical knowledge, skills and experience you will be responsible, reliable and professional with good analytical skills. You must be a good communicator with the ability to write well. You will need to work with a flexible, as your role will involve national and international travel and some overnight stays.
