About Marine Leisure Association

The Marine Leisure Association (MLA) is the only Trade Association for Training, Charter and Holidays in the UK and has representation on various National Committees to safeguard Members’ interests and the general public. We are recognised by the Government, MCA, RYA and other agencies as the “National Body”. We are a Group Association within the BMF (British Marine Federation) and represent our Members’ views within the BMF Council.

MLA member companies offer better protection for the general public and higher standards within the marine industry. Our exclusively recognised Code of Conduct (CoC) and MLA Grievance Procedure are endorsed by The Trading Standards Institute.  All members agree to abide to both our CoC and the BMF Code of Practice (CoP) and each member must fully comply with all statutory and regulatory legislation applicable to their business, products and services. All Training Members have been RYA recognised for over 12 months prior to joining.

All MLA Training companies offer fully MCA/RYA Coded and equipped vessels together with expert tuition for a comprehensive range of professionally organised courses for sail cruising, motor cruising, dinghy, powerboating, windsurfing, shorebased theory, distant learning theory and own boat tuition leading to internationally recognised RYA and MCA qualifications. Tuition by qualified experts offering a careful blend of serious instruction with fun. Training Centres use the latest technology combined with traditional skills to help students achieve their aims.

All MLA Charter and Holiday companies provide a wide variety of vessels in the world’s best cruising areas, with watersports activities available at many locations.  All British registered yachts comply with the MCA Code of Practice for Small Commercial Vessels and foreign flagged yachts comply with the regulations of the country with which they are registered. Charter companies comply to the Package Travel Holiday and Package Tour Regulations 1992, using appropriate bonding, insurance or trust fund arrangements if their business activities requires it. Holiday companies are ATOL (Air Travel Organiser Licence) bonded, managed by the Civil Aviation Authority. ATOL is the government’s licensing and financial protection scheme for air holidays and flights sold by tour operators and travel organisers in the UK.
