Linking the Sheffield & South Yorkshire Navigation with the River Trent, the Stainforth & Keadby Canal offers a pleasant cruise through quiet countryside.

The Stainforth & Keadby Canal was authorised in 1793 and opened in 1802. It brought an influx of people together with increased trade and relative prosperity to the village of Stainforth, which could offer work as well as attractive surroundings to incomers from different parts of the country.

Today, boaters find that rural surroundings and a combination of swing and lift bridges add interest to their very straight voyage across country. Pubs in this area have a distinctly local feel, but are nonetheless friendly and comfortable. You’re guaranteed to meet an angler or two on your travels – several stretches of the Stainforth & Keadby Canal are popular coarse fisheries.

The Stainforth & Keadby Canal is now often thought of as part of the Sheffield & South Yorkshire Navigation.
