Visit ‘Swan Lake’ in the geographical heart of the Lake District.

Named from Old Norse, Elterwater lives up to its romantic label. Perhaps because it lies away from the typical tourist track, the lake is a haven for a variety of bird life – particularly swans.

Elterwater is a favourite of many Lakeland aficionados. It undoubtedly occupies one of the most picturesque parts of this enchanting corner of England, surrounded by forest and moorland, and enjoying breath-taking views of the Langdale Pikes. Walkers on the Cumbria Way pass through Elterwater – many stopping for a breather in the Britannia Inn.
